Keith Godfrey

Who are you?
My name is Keith and I like bikes.

What is your role at MBS?
I am a service advisor. People bring their malfunctioning bikes to me – and working with the skilled techs out back I return to the customers a perfectly working bicycle. Basically, I make people happy.

What do you train/compete/participate in?
Have done some 10k races, some trail running, some cross-country ski races, cycle cross racing, lots of road cycling events, ski patrol competitions, and some yoga to balance things out - but my favourite is always mountain bike events. Preferred the longer marathon style mountain bike races with multi day events being my fav. I was never fast but I could suffer….

What do you ride or what do you dream of riding?
Currently riding a nice road bike, a lightweight xc bike, a touring bike, and a BMW F800ST motorcycle - but I mostly ride my Fat bike year-round. Love riding my Fattie. Dreaming of a new down country mountain bike with 120-130mm of travel.

What is your must have training/cycling accessory?
My must have accessory is a sense of gratitude. Not everyone has the ability, resources, or access for outdoor recreation.

What’s your favourite way to spend a day?
My dream day would be mountain biking - on the rare sunny day - on the amazing trails in the communities along the Sea to Sky Highway in British Columbia – pure Nirvana.

Mostly follow XC World Cup racers – always inspiring to see how they are training, riding, and racing in exotic locations around the world.

What is your favourite song to listen to – to get you pumped?
At the BC Bike Race every morning for 7 mornings in a row, the organizers would start the 600 plus tense and nervous racers with Welcome to the Jungle by Guns ‘n Roses. It took a fair bit of time to get everyone staged and started so the song was on a continuous loop on a very loud PA system – song can still give me chills to this day.

What is something that would surprise us about you?
No surprises about me – no superpowers or special/talents – what you see is what you get - I do make a pretty good Belgian waffle though!

Aaron Beckman

Email: aaron@mikesbikeshop.ca

Who are you, what is your story?
I started working with bikes at 13 after a trip to Toronto because I was really impressed by how cool the bikes there looked. When I got back home to Chilliwack, BC I bought a folding bike and immediately ripped it apart and put it together again. Following that I immediately started getting all sorts of antique bikes, folding, and a few tricycles until I finally got into mountain bikes. My wife and I have been married for 5 years and are both from Chilliwack. We honeymooned in PEI and fell in love with the east coast, so we've come to live here.

What is your role at MBS?
I am a mechanic at MBS.

What do you train/compete/participate in?

What do you ride? or What do you dream of riding?
I particularly enjoy single speed, rigid mountain bikes. Something about getting absolutely rocked by the trail and the added danger without added speed is very appealing.

What is your must-have training/cycling accessory?

What’s your favourite way to spend a day?
With my beautiful wife, thrifting and generally going around town.

What do you ride?
I'm lucky to be able to build and ride my own bike frames since I own and run the Altruiste Bicycle Company, a small bicycle frame-building brand. Otherwise I've always had a soft spot for Rocky Mountain's double suspension line-up. The attention to detail is second-to-none.
