What is your role at MBS?  This is my fourth year as a sales representative at MBS, after being involved in the Liv Ambassador program.

What do you train/compete/participate in?  I love all the sports! Cycling, running, swimming, skate skiing. Endurance training has given me an outlet, and a sense of belonging. It's been my passion since I was 15 years old. In high school I would run to school or work when I could. I spent many hours riding to places like Gananoque and Westport, and swimming in the local lakes around Kingston. Growing up in an active community, I had many role models. Kingston has a great history of triathletes and open water swimmers like Mark Bates and Vicki Keith.

What do you ride?  I ride a Trek Madone Speed for road/tri, A Liv Brava SLR for gravel and a Trek Farley 5 for Fat biking. My skate skis are Fischer Speedmax. My bike lust list includes a Trek Emonda, Liv Devote, and a Quest Fat bike!

What is your must-have training/cycling accessory?  My Garmins: watch and cycling computer and hopefully soon power meter pedals. I am a Stava junkie.

What’s your favourite way to spend a day?  A great day would start with an early morning long run (or skate ski) in the woods listening to my fav playlists. Then a bike ride with my husband and friends, followed up by a swim in the ocean. Of course, lots to eat and drink to recharge.

What’s your favourite Instagram account?  @mikesbikeshop!

What is your favourite song to listen to – to get you pumped?  Next to exercise I would say music gives me the most energy. I have many playlists for different types of training. For speed work I listen to heavy metal bands like Slipknot or Ozzy. For tempo some uplifting bands like The Good Lovelies or ELO. For long slow distance I listen to the Tragically Hip and Neil Young

Keith Godfrey

Who are you?
My name is Keith and I like bikes.

What is your role at MBS?
I am a service advisor. People bring their malfunctioning bikes to me – and working with the skilled techs out back I return to the customers a perfectly working bicycle. Basically, I make people happy.

What do you train/compete/participate in?
Have done some 10k races, some trail running, some cross-country ski races, cycle cross racing, lots of road cycling events, ski patrol competitions, and some yoga to balance things out - but my favourite is always mountain bike events. Preferred the longer marathon style mountain bike races with multi day events being my fav. I was never fast but I could suffer….

What do you ride or what do you dream of riding?
Currently riding a nice road bike, a lightweight xc bike, a touring bike, and a BMW F800ST motorcycle - but I mostly ride my Fat bike year-round. Love riding my Fattie. Dreaming of a new down country mountain bike with 120-130mm of travel.

What is your must have training/cycling accessory?
My must have accessory is a sense of gratitude. Not everyone has the ability, resources, or access for outdoor recreation.

What’s your favourite way to spend a day?
My dream day would be mountain biking - on the rare sunny day - on the amazing trails in the communities along the Sea to Sky Highway in British Columbia – pure Nirvana.

What’s your favourite Instagram account?
Mostly follow XC World Cup racers – always inspiring to see how they are training, riding, and racing in exotic locations around the world.

What is your favourite song to listen to – to get you pumped?
At the BC Bike Race every morning for 7 mornings in a row, the organizers would start the 600 plus tense and nervous racers with Welcome to the Jungle by Guns ‘n Roses. It took a fair bit of time to get everyone staged and started so the song was on a continuous loop on a very loud PA system – song can still give me chills to this day.

What is something that would surprise us about you?
No surprises about me – no superpowers or special/talents – what you see is what you get - I do make a pretty good Belgian waffle though!

Aaron Beckman

Email: aaron@mikesbikeshop.ca

Who are you, what is your story?
I started working with bikes at 13 after a trip to Toronto because I was really impressed by how cool the bikes there looked. When I got back home to Chilliwack, BC I bought a folding bike and immediately ripped it apart and put it together again. Following that I immediately started getting all sorts of antique bikes, folding, and a few tricycles until I finally got into mountain bikes. My wife and I have been married for 5 years and are both from Chilliwack. We honeymooned in PEI and fell in love with the east coast, so we've come to live here.

What is your role at MBS?
I am a mechanic at MBS.

What do you train/compete/participate in?
I just like to ride. On occasion I'll use Strava to see how I'm doing, but just getting out and having a good time is all I'm looking for. Aside from biking I'm also an equally casual kayaker.

What do you ride? or What do you dream of riding?
I particularly enjoy single speed, rigid mountain bikes. Something about getting absolutely rocked by the trail and the added danger without added speed is very appealing.

What is your must-have training/cycling accessory?
All that I need for a good time is a helmet and a bike. A basic set of allen keys is usually all I carry along.

What’s your favourite way to spend a day?
With my beautiful wife, thrifting and generally going around town.

What is your favourite song to listen to – to get you pumped?
I just love New Kids on the Block and a lot of music from the 80s or 90s.  I'm also a big country music fan.  I enjoy a lot of different genres.  My kids also keep me current on pop or "cool" music... especially with all their tik-toks.

What is something that would surprise us about you?
I love "fun" socks.  I'm also a "handy" woman and own a lot of my own tools.  Would love to have my own little shop/shed for carpentry/wood-working someday!

Paul Collett

Email: paul@mikesbikeshop.ca

What is your role at MBS?
At Mike's Bike Shop, I am the shipper receiver, I receive all the products and get to have the first look at all the new goodies.

What do you train/compete/participate in?
Right now I specialize in entertaining my kids on our bike rides. BUT  I used to dabble in racing everything from track to cyclocross to crits to mountain biking to BMX racing. Along the way there's been some bikepacking and touring thrown in there as well.
...so I guess I sincerely fall in that jack of trades, master of none category of cyclist.

What do you ride? or What do you dream of riding?
Currently my favorite bikes in the stable are my fixed gear tracklocross Trek Crockett build, my E-Ute cargo bike as it's great for hauling the kids mini-van style and, finally, my Log Lady Single speed XC bike. I dream of riding all of the bikes.

What is your must have training/cycling accessory?
At this stage of my cycling life, my Kids Ride Shotgun Pro seat is essential as it let's me ride and bring my daughter along. That, or snacks for the kids.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day?
Probably gonna have to say doing any paddle-board adventure with my wife.

What’s your favourite Instagram account?
Ouff, can't say that I'm one for the social media. I haven't been on Instagram in a long time, but @diamondwizard (if he's still on there?) definitely shaped how I approached cycling back in the day.

What is your favourite song to listen to – to get you pumped?
That's not a fair question. It's like asking someone what's their favorite sunset, but if I had to pick maybe "Promises Kept" by Champion.
...or "Middle of June" by Noah Gundersen. ...broad spectrum I know.

What is something that would surprise us about you?
I decorated a bathroom in my house to be like the Black Lodge from Twin Peaks (which also explains one of my 3 bikes above).
